Abortion Rights
The Challenge
Across the country, state legislatures are limiting abortion access in direct defiance of their constituents.
The problem? People can’t hold their representatives accountable if they don’t know what they’ve done.
State Legislatures present a uniquely pressing problem: Since Dobbs, they hold all the power on abortion rights, but they’re able to fly under the radar of our news cycles.
2022
Meeting the Moment
Within days of the Dobbs leak in Spring 2022, the first version of choicetracker.org went live.
It was built on a no-code website builder, with lots of spreadsheets, data about abortion bills, and manual research. All 253 Pennsylvania state legislators had a data-driven webpage detailing their position on abortion rights, and backed up by their own social media quotes, legislative actions, and votes.
Scaling Fast
By election season, I’d found an engineer to build the site properly, including automating much of the research and data intake. I incorporated the nonprofit, and built out “Election Mode” so that users could compare their candidates for State Legislature based on their abortion positions.
Over 100 visitors/day while mail-in ballots were circulating.

Making an Impact
Choice Tracker was used by pro-choice candidates to bolster campaign ads by linking to facts.
Candidates in the tightest races often had the highest page views.
Ex. One anti-abortion candidate lost his race by 434 votes.
His Choice Tracker page had 711 visitors in the weeks leading up to Election Day.
2024 -
Present
With a volunteer team of 10 State Directors and over 30 lawyers curating the content on the site, we expanded to 10 states in 2024. This required building back-end systems and tools, recruiting, training, and streamlining our processes.
By Election Day, over 50,000 people used Choicetracker.org to make an informed, pro-choice vote for their State Legislators. Our team researched, reviewed, and published detailed pages for over 3,500 legislators and candidates.
